February 2009: Salvaging Signals for Health. In a Computing Life "Web Extra", writer Emily Carson introduces PhysioNet to a general audience, emphasizing how its data and software archives provide a wealth of opportunities for scientists and students alike to study complex physiologic signals and time series in innovative ways. Computing Life is a publication of the NIH's National Institute of General Medical Sciences that explores "how scientists use computers to advance our understanding of biology and human health."
Fall 2008: The Golden Age of Public Databases: Speeding Biomedical Discovery. This feature article, written by Regina Nuzzo for Biomedical Computation Review, explores the promise and challenges of open access to research data, drawing insights from PhysioNet and other public data archives.
